A computer that is 5 years old or more can still perform like brand new if you only know how to take care of it. Well, taking care of a computer is just simple. Just the basic things, use the computer properly, get some softwares for computer maintenance, and run various programs that are needed to be run to ensure computer’s smooth performance.

Specifically, remember to:

* Follow the rule in shutting down computers. Until Windows has shut down, never turn your computer off with the power switch. Doing so will prevent temporary and/or permanent hard drive defects as well as prevent Windows problems.

* Maintain free space of 300 MB in your drive C. If you use Vista or Windows XP then make it 400-600 MB. Be aware that not maintaining enough free space for your drive C will cause the dumping of data to your hard drive that will eventually lead to slow performance.

* Secure Norton Utilities to get access of Cleansweep so you can clean up your drive for good computer performance. There are some other hard drive cleaners out there, so if you don’t like using Cleansweep you are free to go for other options.

* Make use of the Add/Delete tool in the Windows Control Panel to get rid of the programs that are not anymore needed from your drive. This will help boost maximum performance of your computer.

* Get a firewall program in case you have a high speed Internet connection. Doing so will keep your computer away from hijackers. You shouldn’t want somebody else run your computer.

* Have a virus checker in your computer and run it frequently. Viruses can seriously slow down your computer’s performance or worst destroy your hard drive permanently. You can try Norton Antivirus or those free online virus checkers like Housecall by Trend Micro.

* Run the Defragment and Scandisk tools even just once a month. Doing so will keep your hard drive healthy. Be aware that if your hard drive is healthy, your computer will also perform at its best.

* In times like your computer starts to show symptoms for a serious registry trouble like for an instance freezes, hardware malfunctions, slow windows start ups, computer error messages, system32 error messages, and the like, secure a registry cleaner right away. There might be some errors and corrupt files in your registry. These errors and possible corrupt files will seriously compromise your computer’s performance.

VOIP Phone Systems - Recession & BT’s Price Hikes

February 26, 2009 · Filed Under Voip · Comment
by Lee Gibbs

As the recession strikes down even more corporate victims & consumer spending hits an all time low, outlook looks bleak for British businesses, except that is for British Telecom the UK largest communications company who has increased its call setup fees, line rentals & call charges.

BT line rentals today vary from 12.23GBP per PSTN line to 15.92GBP per ISDN channel on a one year contract. VOIP service providers have increased the price gap with IP line rentals of 1.50 per month per trunk.

BT ISDN2 connection charge has gone up to SRP of 299GBP which is an increase of 25% to the same time last year. With an 80GBP connection charge per channel on ISDN 30, BT paves the way for VOIP Telecom providers & LCRs many of whom offer free connection without long tie-ins.

BT has raised it’s call setup fee from 6 to 7p which means that unless you have opted for a BT call plan or switched your billing to LCR, you will be paying 7p per connection before you start your call - this is quite poor considering large number of calls go to voicemail. UK VOIP providers lead the pack again with minimum call charges of 1.5p - 2p.

UK landline to mobile minute rates to (07) numbers vary from 8p with LCR on long term contracts and high call spend to BT’s 19p standard rate. Minute rates to national (01) (02) numbers vary from 0.8p on long term LCR contracts to BT’s 4p standard rate. UK ITSPs typically charge 9p - 11p to mobiles & 1.25p -1.5p to landlines without any long contract obligations or spend commitments. Many Voip Providers are now offering all inclusive UK & international calls packages from 15 to 25 pcm.

Call plans such as: BTOneplan offer 5p capped calls(1 hour) to landlines & 20p capped calls(1 hour) to mobiles. To qualify for the plan customers need 2 other BT services on a 2 year contract. This however may not represent the best value for money to most of us - as a recent Telecost survey of 2 million calls across various industries suggests that the average call length to mobile is 110 seconds and an average call length to landline is 112 seconds. If this is accurate then BT’s offer is only suitable for companies that make longer than average length calls.

For maximum telecoms savings companies should insure that their phone system is GSM ready. By incorporating GSM gateways UK companies can achieve free office to staff mobile calls & rates of 1.47p per minute to other mobile networks. These deals are more suited to companies with higher call volumes as some development & negotiation is required.

Those companies who are thinking of migrating telecoms to VOIP will need the following:

- phone system that supports SIP or IAX

- good quality internet connection

- necessary upstream to cope with call requirement

- IP phones such as Cisco, Snom or Aastra

- consultation with a Voip Telecoms Consultant (usually free)

PSP Accessories

February 26, 2009 · Filed Under Computer Hardware · Comment

Like every single system of video games out there, the portable PSP does connect with more than video games. While its chief function is video game enjoyment, this enjoyment can come in many different shapes and sizes. PSP accessories number in the hundreds, and are released yearly by both Sony and numerous third-party companies. PSP accessories help games make the most of their PSP systems; accessories add comfort, convenience and a sense of adventure to an otherwise middle-of-the-road gaming experience. In fact, for most gaming systems, accessories are the factors that tempt gamers to buy particular devices over the others, and for the PSP, developers are only just beginning to explore the potential of Sony’s portable PlayStation.

Adding Some Color

PSP accessories can be broken down into many categories. Firstly, there are those accessories that add to the actual game play. These include padding for the controller, headsets for internal communication for certain games, audio splitters for headphones and even AV cables that connect the PSP to a television for large-screen entertainment. Additional USB cables can also be purchased so players can keep their PSP systems updated via the internet, especially when they do not have wireless internet connections. The PSP itself comes with built-in wireless capability, an accessory that comes pre-packaged with every system and opens a whole new world of game downloads and demos.

Other PSP accessories, while not designed to directly affect actual game play, help increase the enjoyment of game play. These include extended battery packs, car and AC adaptors, battery chargers and larger memory sticks. With these PSP accessories, gamers can play longer and play harder without having to worry about memory or power; unlike regular video game systems, portable devices are limited by their wireless technology.

Many PSP accessories are also available to protect the PSP from the elements, and to repair slight damages. Cases come in all colors and materials; nylon cases help carry the PSP and organize games, while hard-shelled cases protect the PSP from any number of accidents. Many cleaning systems are also available to keep both the system and the games in working condition. video game console.

Aside from the normal PSP accessories a player can expect from most gaming systems, other accessories debut every year at video game conventions. From GPS devices to keyboards, cameras to shock packs, PSP accessories offer infinite possibilities and experiences. While the PSP is small, its potential is large, and developers are only just tapping the surface.

While playing on your Nintendo you might want to consider learning to set CSS Background for your web page or maybe check out some high quality spy stuff. You might also want to take a look at some weird gadgets.

The ever-irreverent Michael Jackson put it best when told me over dinner, Dont stop until you get enough. Good advice, Mike. Were all in such a hurry, trying to get enough, trying to get more and more and more. The typewriter too slow for you, Mr. Twinkle Toes? Use a PC. The PC too cumbersome? Use a laptop. The laptop too bulky? Use a smart phone, already! The drive to move and the need to communicate seem to be the two constants in this, our Modern Era, our Brave New World ” our Eden.

For the traveling salesman of yore, a briefcase was enough to push his way through the door. Today, were all plugged into the mainframe. We all need to access our email, our bookmarks, our Twitter accounts. For this, a desktop would indeed be just fine, if you worked out of an office. For you wonder kids, you whizzes of the New Dawn, this simply wont do. The slick salesman of today needs a laptop to pull up his PowerPoint presentation and flash demos of the new cyclone-powered robot vacuum.

The laptop bandwagon is now a baggage train. You can hop from one car to the next. Dont care for IBM? Rest easy, my son ” you have Dell, Lenovo, Compaq, Toshiba, Hewlett-Packard and Apple ready to go. Dont like the silver cover? You are a finicky lout! Get the red one, or the black one or the yellow one for crying out loud. Now, you can even slap on some new laptop skins and presto: a racing flame laptop. Evel Knievel would be proud.

The bells and whistles most laptop computers feature are too numerous to bother with. Extended batteries, flash drives, wireless Internet connections, CD and DVD players and burners and levitation levers. Bill Gatess, Michael Dells, and Steve Jobss imagination knows no bounds. Hate squinting at a 12 monitor? Come, come, now man ” get yourself a 17 monster and let the whole caf enjoy your vacation slideshow set to Twisted Sisters Were Not Gonna Take It.

Don’t slow down. Stay plugged in. Remember, the matrix never sleeps and good ideas wait for no man or woman or child. Bring your laptop to dinner. Impress your date with all the tricks youve learned. Embrace this break-neck pace and let your laptop take you to the highest peaks of digital reality. Just make sure you dont stop until you get enough.
